I love buffet food, maybe a little too much- because I'm always embarrassed to go back for seconds (or thirds). I'm always hoping that no one will notice. My sister, Nancy, and I have spent many years attending trade shows. There's always a party or two with a wonderful buffet. Sometimes it's even free. Then it tastes even better.

We once thought about writing a book for homeless people that would tell them how to eat good for free. Go to the nearest fancy hotel, go to the rest room and get tidied up as best you can. Pick up a name tag outside the door of a party (surreptitously) , check to see if they're only serving cheese cubes (too binding!) put on your best manners and eat hearty. Then we realized, homeless people wouldn't have the money to buy the book. So much for that idea !

Nancy  called me to say " did you see our picture in the paper? It's in an ad for the Fallbrook Film Festival."  There we were at last year's film festival---at the buffet table---caught on camera! Luckily it wasn't free so at least we had paid to gorge ourselves.

Notice that our picture in the ad is between an Elvis impersonator and George Hamilton,( this year's honored guest.)Nothing but the best for Fallbrook.

Actually it's a wonderful festival. We always enjoy the films and the buffet is delicious!

Hiking the Santa Margarita Trail, Fallbrook, Ca.

Nancy and I took the dogs for a hike. I've lived in Fallbrook for almost 20 years and I had never been to the Santa Margarita Trail. It was absolutely beautiful. No need to drive up to the mountains to get away from it all. A wilderness is right here in Fallbrook- about 15 minutes away. Why has it taken me so long to see it?  I'm not much of an outdoors person and definitely not a hiker. But it was a real easy hike even for Artie (Megan's dog) who is old and blind. Nancy's dog, Tootie, loved it and sniffed every stone and blade of grass.

On the way home there was a beautiful sunset. We were stopped at a stoplight by the marque of the Baptist church and Lo and Behold-- A miracle !!  The marque wasn't lit up.  Nancy said "what if it says something about the sunset". Just then the light came on and it said
" Forecast- The Son will shine forever."
I'm not the least bit religious and I certainly don't believe in miracles but for a minute there.....

I always like to see where my fellow bloggers live. Maybe you do, too. If so, here's a small part of Fallbrook... the drive from downtown to my house:

The slow way to drive home (and the prettiest) is through the ancient oak forest. The trees are protected so it sometimes makes for a slightly scary drive as the road narrows to allow for the trees on the side. When a car is coming in the opposite direction you have to be very careful to stay in your lane. You can't always count on the other guy, though.

Turn left at Lake Tree Dr. which is surrounded by the Fallbrook Golf Course. The clubhouse is on the other side of the street. We often eat lunch there. Wednesday is "two for one" hamburger day and Tuesday is "Taco Tuesday"when tacos are $1.00.

Don't turn here- this is the road into our avocado grove. Right now it's covered with leaves which makes for a very slippery drive. Usually it's used by the grove management co. But they must be walking in because they're not keeping it cleared. At the end of this road is what's called a "Butler building". It's made of tin but is a complete little house with kitchen and bathroom. It could be very cute if we had the money to fix it up. Someday, maybe.
