SEPIA SATURDAY- Uncle Bob

This is my Uncle Bob who was in the orphanage with my father.(see last Sepia Saturday)
They both turned out O.K. after their traumatic experience. My father graduated from the University of Chicago and became an engineer. My Uncle Bob also graduated from there and then joined the Air Force and became a pilot. Unfortunately while on a training mission over the ocean in Alaska his plane went down and he was never found. This was certainly another traumatic experience for my father as they were best friends as well as brothers and had been through so much together.

This is my uncle's desk in Alaska with a picture of me on it.

Wow. This is weird. I was checking the Sepia Saturday site all day, looking for those who joined in at the last minute, and at one point I quickly scrolled down, went too far, and started clicking on the later links from last week. After encountering two or three sites I'd already seen, I realized my mistake, but not until I'd read your post from last Saturday. Now I'm glad I did, so I got both parts of this story without back-tracking!

Your uncle was a handsome guy, probably a real heart-breaker with the young ladies. And what a shame that he was lost to your family at such a young age.

Enjoyed both posts.

How sad for your father to lose his best pal so young. I'm going to go back and read the previous post, as well.

Uncle Bob was a hottie! :)

What a poignant story, and the picture on the desk is almost heart-breaking. Thanks for sharing it with us on Sepia Saturday.

The photo of your uncle is wonderful. His story is so sad, though, as was the story from the week before. Thanks for sharing such remarkable photos.

Wow, Uncle Bob is so handsome and dashing looking.
I too love that picture of you on the desk. So tender and touching - you can see that he must have cherished you.

Are you writing down all these family memories?

I don't know how I missed this post. Sorry about that!

That top photo is such a treasure—he was a very handsome man, but it is even sweeter to see how he kept your photo on his desk. Really nice to have that photo.

A wonderful picture -- the quintessential dashing young aviator. But what a heartbreak to lose him!

And the desk tells us even more...
