Ebony went to her final reward the day after Osama Bin Laden. I don't know whether that means anything but she was a way better cat than he was a human being.
My friend, Robin, always called her "Mama Kitty" because when she first showed up at my door she was trailed by 5 kittens. ( I still have one of them, called "Baby Kitty" by Robin, but Jeri always called him "Linus"). Jeri has her own name for Ebony, too. She calls her Molly. So Ebony has three names. But like most cats, doesn't come when she's called anyway. So, what's in a name?
Robin and Jeri both knew Ebony (Mama Kitty, Molly) well. Robin often babysat for her and the rest of the cats. Jeri shared an office with her, the rest of the cats, and Nancy and I. Besides Jeri's other office duties she usually fed Ebony (and the others). She often babysat for her, also.
The thing I'll remember most about Ebony was her beautiful, graceful walk. It was exactly like a model on the "catwalk". I think that must be where the name came from.
Such a beauty! Sorry...
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear of this loss. As cat lives go she won the lottery getting to live with you.
ReplyDeleteShe was so lucky to have found you, someone who could truly appreciate what a great cat she was.
ReplyDeleteAhhh. So sad to see the photos. She had a fourth name. I always called her "black cat". Not too original - but with six cats around it was the best way for me to know who was who.
ReplyDeleteNancy
I forgot about her fourth name. That's what we always called her when we were talking about her to each other. Especially because, even I, kept forgetting her name...she had so many. Imagine, one little cat with four names!
ReplyDeleteBarbara
Thank you all . Now I feel better.
ReplyDeleteBarbara
I suppose she realized you no longer needed her protection....
ReplyDeleteIt is tough loosing an animal. We lost a cat that we had tried to bring back to good health. We didn't have her for a few months as she was a stray kitten but the cat was a grat soul and we suffered so over her loss.
ReplyDeleteLosing two cats last year - I feel your pain. Smokey - 21 years old, born on my son's bed. And Rainbow Meow - 11, who lost her life tragically. Now we have a new little bundle of joy She was 1# when we rescued her off the streets of LA - CoCo Puff. Started out CoCo Chanel,CoCo Meow,JLo (from the block) Bandit, just Kitten, names are tough. She's beautiful. You'll have to come and see her!!
ReplyDeletei feel more sorrow for Ebony than that "other guy" there...
ReplyDeletei lost Igraine tragically after only a few months but it was for me a terrible loss. i now have two rescued cats, one is now two yars old and the new one is less than a year old. i seem to be the messiah for all the stray souls in this city... and when i went to the petshop to get some nw toys, i fell in love with the cutest one there. and as i was looking at some stuff on the shelves, it kept tapping my shoulder as it extended its paw to get my attention. oh well!! i already have two. can't imagine bringing in a 3rd one... could i???
:D~
